Taking a little breather

I've been taking a break - haha, I know - taking a break from NOT writing. No, this time I'm taking a break from thinking about writing and feeling guilty and icky for not writing.

I've had to do this before. The way my life works, much like your own, no doubt, there's lots of time when my hands are busy and my mind isn't. I tend to let it circle around writing and my feelings about writing while I'm folding laundry, cooking, whatever. End result - by the time I sit down I'm half worried and already feeling frustrated. So last week I decided to back off a little, and I'm already feeling fresher and more anxious to get to my keyboard.

Miscellaneous:
March break is here and Little Boy is home.
Baby girl discovered how to climb stairs yesterday.
The big 34 is coming up next week, yoy. (sigh)
Have eight people coming for job interviews tomorrow.
Still on the hunt for more meatless recipes.

What I'm grateful for today:
It's sunny, and I'm already partway done the laundry.
I'm grateful for this computer, and the time I have to use it.
Will be seeing Adored Neighbour and her kids on Wednesday. We live so close, see each other so little.
I am learning to be more patient with Little Boy. Feeling good about that.

Hi Cindy!
By all means, give yourself a break! You are doing so much good right now-- raising two little ones, managing a household, working, and writing-- you shouldn't beat yourself up at all.

I know how overwhelming it is to write a novel. It is a big project. One of my favourite quotes that helps me with this is from Martin Luther King, Jr: "You don't have to see the whole staircase, you only have to take the first step." You're already on the staircase, you just have to keep going. Keep adding. And I'd like to be your crit partner whenever you're ready. I'll read whatever you've got. Don't let my writing pace/routine hold you back. I'm flexible. :o)

I see you've read The Secret. I haven't read it yet, but I've seen the movie. Life changing! But it doesn't go into enough about using The Secret in everyday life. However, Jack Canfield's The Success Principles does. I love it! So many good ideas. This man knows success-- he's been reading and studying and teaching success principles for years and years. I really recommend it.

How was Rhonda Byrne's book?

Hi Sara!

Oh, the Secret. I had such high hopes for it, and while I think parts of the principle are solid, there is a little bit of Hooey. It's currently lavishing next to my computer while I hork and choke on statements like this:

P59: (The Secret and Your Body)
The most common thought that people hold, and I held it too, is that food was responsible for my weight gain...Food is not responsible for putting on weight. It is your THOUGHT that food is responsible for putting on weight that actually has food put on weight...Food cannot cause you to put on weight unless you THINK it can.

Ok, wtf? Heard of, oh, SCIENCE? how about MATH?

I'm having some trouble believing in these "experts" now, but I'll still continue reading the book.

As for sharing crits, that would be lovely. Wonderful!

Cindy,
That *is* Hooey. The real secret to success is holding the image of a healthy body and being 100% committed to making it happen. I think for some people, food becomes away of soothing negative thoughts, but if those people were living joy-filled, bliss-filled lives, they wouldn't need food to feel good. This "Food cannot cause you to put on weight unless you THINK it can." is just wrong.

I think Rhonda is just the person who came up with The Secret package/image. The real teachers know what they're talking about-- they've done the work.

As for the crits... here's my email: jupitertulips at hotmail.com

I'm looking forward to this!
